Christopher Warden Death –President of Utah Krishnas dies after car crash in Springville
SPRINGVILLE, Utah — The Utah Hare Krishna community is mourning the loss of its longtime leader, Christopher Caru Warden, 79, who died Monday following a car crash in Springville.
According to Springville Police, the incident occurred when Warden, traveling south on Main Street near 1400 North, crossed into oncoming traffic. He succumbed to his injuries sustained in the collision. Others involved in the accident suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Warden, widely known within the community by his spiritual names Charu Das, Caru Dasa, or Caru Prabhu, served as the president of Utah Krishnas. He was a foundational figure in the state’s Hindu community, most notably for co-founding the Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork with his wife.

Under his leadership, the temple became a vibrant center for culture and spirituality, drawing thousands of visitors each year. He was best known as the driving force behind the temple’s internationally renowned Festival of Colors (Holi), a joyous celebration that has become one of Utah’s most iconic and well-attended cultural events, promoting messages of unity, love, and the arrival of spring.
His sudden passing leaves a profound void. Tributes describe him as a gentle, dedicated spiritual guide who worked tirelessly to build bridges of understanding between Eastern traditions and the local community. He was not just an administrator but a beloved teacher and friend to many.
The temple has announced plans for memorial services, expecting an outpouring from a community that extends far beyond its congregation, touching all who experienced the colorful, welcoming world he helped create in the heart of Utah.
